pupils at Saint Bart's Homework Policy
At St Bartholomew’s, homework is seen as an enhancement to the national curriculum programme studied in school, an opportunity to reinforce concepts and skills learned at school and a way of promoting a home/school partnership in education. We consider that parental encouragement with homework benefits children’s progress.

Absences
Please remember to ring the school first thing in the morning, or as soon as possible during the day, with the reason for the absence.

School Meals
All parents and carers receiving Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers’ Allowance are entitled to claim free school meals for their child. School Dinner Charges

£9.50 per week

School Dinners must now be taken in one week blocks, you can no longer have a school dinner on an 'odd' day. Exceptions will be made for Top Table awards, Christmas Dinner and school trips.

Dinner money should be paid in full every MONDAY. Cash is acceptable, however we would prefer payment by cheque.

Cheques should be made payable to "Leicestershire County Council" or "LCC". Please write your address and cheque guarantee card number on the back of the cheque. The cheque (or cash) should be placed in an envelope – if cash, sealed all the way around - with the pupil’s name and class teacher on the front together with a note of the amount enclosed. For sale from the school office are Dinner Money envelopes, which can be used for sending in dinner money, these cost £2.00 for 50 envelopes.

top of page Pupils arriving late or leaving the school premises
It has been noted that more and more pupils are arriving at school late in the mornings. May we remind you that the school day begins with registration in class at 8.50am. The school gates are open at 8.45am and pupils are expected to be in class ready for registration at 8.55am. Pupils not present when their name is called are marked absent. This mark is only corrected to being present or late if pupils arriving after registration time sign and record their details in the "Late Book" which is kept in the school office. Consistently arriving late, and not signing in the Late Book, can reflect badly on a pupil’s attendance record.

For administrative reasons it would help the Office if a pupil arriving late could pop into the Office and let Mrs Gilkes know if they require a school dinner.

It is most important, for Health and Safety reasons, that pupils arriving late into school MUST sign in the Late Book (please see above). This applies to pupils who have been to the dentist/doctor, hospital, etc. as well as late attendees.

It is also important that pupils LEAVING the school premises (if poorly or for a medical appointment, etc.) MUST sign the "Signing In and Out Book" also kept in the school office.

Where pupils have missed registration, the Late Book is the official record of their attendance and is of the utmost importance in the case of a fire or emergency evacuation. It is therefore essential that accurate records of those present on school premises are kept.

If a pupil is leaving the school, for any reason, in the morning, Mrs Gilkes needs to know if they will be back in time for their school dinner or not. Children, at all times, must be collected from the Waiting Area or class by an adult. No child will be allowed to leave the school premises on their own.

top of page Policy for Charging for Trips
The school reserves the right to levy a charge in any circumstances permissible, under the Education Reform Act.

Parents may be asked to make voluntary contributions for any visits or journeys organised by the school. Although the matter of a voluntary contribution will not be a factor in deciding whether a pupil is allowed to participate, the school reserves the absolute right to determine whether the level of voluntary contributions is sufficient to enable the trip/visit to take place.

Complaint Procedure
The school has a complaints procedure, a copy of which can be obtained from the school office.
