A Warm Welcome to you all from St. Bartholomew’s School.
At St. Bart’s we have a very clear Mission Statement. This is based around providing the children with a high quality, nurturing and inclusive learning environment that allows the children to grow as individuals, achieving their personal goals. As part of our focus upon providing an inclusive education, we have a support system in place for children with additional needs. This is based around communication between our Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator, parents and teachers. This allows us to fully support the needs of all children at school and there is also opportunity for parents to support at home too.
We have high expectations of all of the children at St. Bart’s both in their attitude and behaviour within school. This gives us the opportunity to provide focused and exciting learning opportunities. We are very fortunate to have a variety of resources and features in and around the school that enhance the children’s learning. Our school grounds are extensive, and we have both playground and woodland areas for the children to explore; we make the most of this space with Forest School lessons. We also have a Sensory Room that provides the opportunity for children to take time out of the classroom if this is needed as well as outdoor classrooms for Foundation Stage and Year One children.
Starting in Foundation Stage.
In December 2017, our Early Years Provision was rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We have a dedicated team which understands the importance of a successful first year at school. The induction process at St. Bart’s is based around the importance of introducing the children to a safe environment in which they will feel comfortable. This process starts when Nursery visits are made, and the Foundation Stage team starts to learn about your child as an individual.
An induction meeting will be held and this is when the partnership between teacher, parent and the children begins. We find this to be fundamental to a successful start to schooling as we like to keep parents informed at each stage of the induction process. This communication then continues throughout the year through our use of Tapestry (an online learning platform accessible to teachers and parents). We also have a Parents’ Evening early on in the year to discuss how the children have settled in at St. Bart’s.
Once your child starts their school journey in late August/September, we will hopefully begin by visiting your child in their home environment (dependent upon government guidance surrounding Coronavirus) or ask them to bring to school some items from home, to begin to encourage a connection between home and school. We also start the school year with staggered starts which provide the children with the comfort that you, as a parent, are never far away for long. We believe in a child centred approach to the start of their school life and with such a lot of changes happening, this allows for them to gradually become confident learners within the school setting.
Below are some photographs of our vibrant and inspiring classrooms in Foundation Stage. As you can see, we have both indoor and outdoor spaces for the children to explore and lots of wonderful resources to enhance their learning.
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about our school. We look forward to meeting you and your children very soon as we welcome you to St. Bart’s.
