English

St. Bart’s follows the English National Curriculum as laid down by the Department for Education, this includes a focus on Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.

In studying English, pupils develop skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening.  This enables them to express themselves creatively, imaginatively and to communicate with others effectively.

Writing is taught discreetly with pupils learning how to write for a variety of purposes; it is also taught across the curriculum in other subjects such as science, history and geography.

The children learn to become enthusiastic and critical readers of stories, poetry and drama as well as non-fiction and media texts. Children also enjoy taking part in drama activities.

The documents listed below, build on the National Curriculum and summary information here and provide a more detailed view of our expectations and intent for the provision of this subject, including curriculum coverage.
