Special Educational Needs

Special Needs Education at St Bartholomew’s

The term “Special Education Needs” has a legal definition.  Children placed on the SEN record all have difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn than most children of the same age.  These children need extra or different provision for some or all of their time in school.

Some children will have special educational needs identified before starting school.  Others will be identified as needing additional or different support during their time in school.  Often children might be placed on the record for a period of time – perhaps a year or two – and then they make such good progress that they no longer need the additional support and they will be taken off the record.

If you would like more detailed information about how we identify and support pupils with special educational needs please see our SEN policy on this website.  The policy is the school's contribution to the Local Offer.

If you have reason to believe that your child may need extra support and understanding, for whatever reason, please talk to the class teacher or to the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator).
