We offer an exceptionally broad curriculum, supported by excellent resources and facilities and enriched through creative activities, clubs, themed days, visits, outings and residential trips.

Our highly skilled, experienced teachers work hard to ensure that pupils are excited by learning, and that every child is stretched and challenged. Children with special learning needs – including more able pupils – receive extra support to help them make the most of their abilities. Academic results are consistently above national average in core subjects of Maths, English and Science and more children achieve outstanding SATs results each year. By the time they leave us at the end of year six, pupils are confident, motivated and independent learners, ready to seize opportunities and explore new directions.

We are fortunate to have superb computing facilities, which we use to support the entire curriculum. There are Smartboards in every classroom, and all year groups have access to laptops, visualisers and IPad resources. The school’s virtual learning environment (VLE) supplements and enhances learning.

Children learn about healthy living in the classroom; through sports and PE at clubs such as gymnastics and dance and through school visits and residential trips. The school has extensive grounds and wonderful outdoor play equipment which children love to make full use of at playtime! They also enjoy delicious, nutritious school lunches, prepared in a modern on-site kitchen by our talented cook and her excellent team. Every child enjoys at least two hours of sport each week, sometimes supported by specialist sports coaches who are able to utilise our extensive grounds for track and field sports.  Children are encouraged to take part in sport for fitness, fun and competition and their tremendous determination, team spirit and talent is on show every sports day! We run a number of popular lunchtime and after school sports clubs including football, netball and athletics, and enter local and regional competitions in a variety of sports.

A wide network of support embraces everyone involved in the life of the school – from pupils to parents. Children benefit from the buddy system and a robust anti-bullying policy. We encourage parents to become involved in the life of the school, listening to children read, helping in the library, running clubs, helping out at fundraising events and productions, and joining the ‘Friends Of St Bartholomew’s Association’.
