Modern Foreign Languages

Children at St. Bartholomew’s are encouraged to listen and speak other languages and learn about the culture of other countries.

They learn French from Foundation Stage upwards with activities such as answering the register, learning french songs, learning numbers and colours and simple greetings. French in Key Stage 2 is carefully structured so that there is progression and there are close links with Rawlins, the feeder High and Upper School to ensure that children make good progress in language acquisition.

Children also have a chance to learn simple Spanish phrases in year 6 with taster days and other languages are explored through topics and through visitors.  Children in year 2 have French penfriends and are able to use simple phrases to write to their friends.
